“If”

Donald Trump on NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice"

If you can keep your mind when media around you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust your supporters when naysayers doubt you,
And turn them into your admirers too;
If you can speak and not be tired of speaking,
And call lies out, and those who deal in lies,
Or being hated, and laugh at those hating,
Always managing to look so good, and talk so wise:

If you can deal—and the art of leverage master;
If you can think—and put others thoughts to shame;
If you can deal with China and Mexico
And treat those two job-stealers just the same;
If you can hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by pundits clinging to the corrupt past,
Or see the US healthcare system, broken,
And cut through bureaucracy and fix it up damn fast:

If you can make billions with all your dealing
And sacrifice it all to be a Presidential boss,
And win, win again and never tire of winning
And undo executive orders with a pen by Cross;
If you have the biggest heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your term four long years after building a wall,
And Make America Great Again because something in you
Has the wisdom to tell the nation: “PC will fall.”

If you can talk with record size crowds and share your virtue,
And appeal to the masses—with a truthful common touch,
If neither losers nor dishonest media can hurt you,
If all fall down, with a solid counter-punch;
If you can fill a cable or social media minute
With an absolutely irresistible headline,
Your votes will hail from the nation and all that are in it,
You’ll be President Donald J. Trump – and just in time!
